Please book early so I have time to add rooms if they are needed (see below for link to motel). Very easy to get to-the motel is right off Interstate 59 at exit 181. FYI - there are several gas stations right nearby.
Tentative schedule:
Thursday evening - low country shrimp boil and comradery beginning at 6pm. I have a conference room right at the motel so we can socialize.
Friday cruise - leave at 8:30 am (everybody with a full tank of gas) and drive 15 minutes to visit the Unique Motorcars facility. That stop will be about 1 hour. Then hit the road and drive to the Mustang Museum of America in Oldenville AL (about 1 hour). There will be a few traffic lights to contend with until we get out of town. We will have about 1.5 hours at the museum before we head to lunch. There is nothing big enough for the whole group nearby so we will break into 2 groups for lunch: the choices are either Mexican or Barbeque (more details later).Hit the road again for a lovely ride back to Gadsden, guessing ETA about 3:3-. An hour or so to relax before we reconvene at 4:15 pm and head to First Friday in downtown Gadsden (Downtown Gadsden - click on Frist Friday tab). If you have some folding chairs they might come in handy. Specific details on the travel route and maps will be available on Friday morning.
On Saturday we will leave about 9 am. Travel about one hour to the International Motorsports Hall of fame in Talladega for about a 1.5 hour visit. Then hit the road for an hour and have lunch in Lineville, AL. Then hit the road for a loop back to Gadsden with a stop at a winery in Heflin. Should be back around 4. We will finish the evening with a catered BBQ supper so we can relax and enjoy more comradery.
I am getting with Mike to set up registration on the Deep South Cobra Club website (dscc.us).For those of you not with the club you can contact me directly (tgallagher@auburn.edu). The plan will be $65.00 for one and $110.00 per couple. For that you will get the shrimp boil, entry to both museums and the BBQ, plus beverages to consume. Hopefully everybody is alright with the price- I promise you won't go hungry or thirsty!!! There will be a t-shirt commemorating the weekend. Price will be $25.00 for short sleeve or $27 for long sleeve. Make sure to put the number of shirts and the size you want on the registration page.
Let me know if you have any questions and keep your fingers crossed for sunshine. I look forward to hosting you all in Alabama.
